Senate Committee to Review Williams' Nomination
Wednesday, December 04, 2013WASHINGTON -- A confirmation hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 on former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams’ nomination to head the Economic Development Administration in the U.S. Commerce Department.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works will consider President Obama’s nomination of Williams to serve as assistant secretary of commerce for economic development at the hearing, scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Williams, who endorsed Obama early in the 2008 primaries and campaigned on his behalf, said he is unable to comment on the confirmation process.

These additions to its Mahoning Valley office, along with staff growth in both the Las Vegas and San Diego locations, were in response to a significant increase in business, says co-founder Frank Caparso.

Foundation Gives Children’s Rehab Center $30,000
Wednesday, December 04, 2013WARREN, Ohio -- The Children's Rehabilitation Center, Howland, Tuesday received $30,000 from the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation.
The funds will be used to support services at the center, which include therapies, social and educational programs for almost 1,000 children from birth to age 18, according to Robert Foster, executive director of the center.
Youngstown Campus of Eastern Gateway Hosts Tours

Exploring college courses and programs of study will take place as well, and admissions and advising staff will be available to discuss students’ options.

GM Sales Increase 14%, Cruze Sales Up 8%
Tuesday, December 03, 2013DETROIT -- Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze rose 8.3% during November, as General Motors Co. posted overall double-digit delivery gains for the month.
GM reported it sold 212,060 new cars and trucks during November, a 14% increase compared to year-ago figures. Retail sales were up 19% while fleet sales were down 3%, the company said.
Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze, manufactured at GM's Lordstown, Ohio, Complex, stood at 18,200 units sold for the month compared to 16,807 sold in November 2012, a gain of 8.3%, the company said. It was the best sales in November for the small car.
Tax Credits Advance Pennex Expansion at Leetonia Plant
Tuesday, December 03, 2013LEETONIA, Ohio -- The Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit Authority Monday approved tax credits for a potential expansion project in Columbiana County that could result in 65 new jobs.
The state approved a 45%, six-year tax credit for Pennex Aluminum Co. LLC, which operates an extrusion plant at the World Trade Park here, just outside the village.
