December Steel Shipments Up 0.4% from November
Wednesday, February 12, 2014WASHINGTON -- Domestic steel mills shipped 7,632,629 net tons in December, an increase of 0.4% from November and up 2% from December 2012, the American Iron and Steel Institute reports.
Full-year 2013 shipments of 95,423,417 net tons marks an 0.5% decrease versus full-year 2012 shipments, AISI says.
A comparison of December shipments to the preceding month of November shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 9%; cold rolled sheet, up 1%; and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 4%.
US Expands OCTG Anti-Dumping Penalties
Wednesday, February 12, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that oil country tubular goods, or OCTG, pipe that is manufactured in China but undergoes minor processing in other countries is also subject to antidumping and countervailing penalties according to U.S. trade law.
The decision prompted applause from Ohio's two U.S. senators, Republican Rob Portman and Democrat Sherrod Brown.

Air Force Thunderbirds Return to Valley in May
Tuesday, February 11, 2014VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The first air show in five years is preparing for takeoff at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station this spring.
“The Thunderbirds are going to be headlining this year,” Maj. Jay Ference, a U.S. Air Force pilot stationed at the base, told members of the board of the Western Reserve Port Authority Monday. The Thunderbirds are a crack squadron of F-16 jet fighter pilots who are world renown for their acrobatic and precision flying skills.
The show is slated for Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, he said.

Earnings in the fourth quarter were $273,321 compared to 281,434 in 2012. On a per-share basis, 2013 earnings were 88 cents compared to 79 cents for the previous year; earnings for the quarter were 28 cents per share in 2013 and 2012.
