Thursday, July 24, 2014CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Working at an Arby’s restaurant was among Susanne Dutton’s first jobs following high school. A friend’s sister was a “higher-up” at the company at the time, she recalls.
“Because the offices were right down the street, I started at the Belmont store,” she said. “I was one of the first girls that worked there, too. It was mostly guys that worked at Arby’s when I started.”
Farmers Reports Q2 Net Income of $2.35 Million
Thursday, July 24, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp., parent of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co., reports $2.35 million in net income, or 13 cents per diluted share, for the quarter ended June 30.
This compares to first-quarter net income of $2.19 million, or 12 cents a share, and second-quarter 2013 net income of $1.87 million, or 10 cents per share.

BWC Agrees to Settle San Allen Class Action Lawsuit
Thursday, July 24, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation reports it has reached an agreement in principle to settle the San Allen class-action lawsuit filed in 2007 again the state over BWC pricing policies in place from 2001 to 2008.
The settlement includes BWC creating a $420 million fund to pay for claims to employers participating in the lawsuit, their attorney fees, court costs and the costs of administering the fund.
The agreement in principle was announced Wednesday.
Mahoning, Trumbull Habitats for Humanity to Merge
Thursday, July 24, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The affiliates of Habitat for Humanity in Mahoning and Trumbull counties will merge within the next two to six months, says Monica Craven, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County.
“The Mahoning County Habitat has had a lot of success with homebuilding. Trumbull has been an all-volunteer operation that's struggled to build as many houses or serve as many families,” she explains. “We came together and talked about how we might do better together than separately.”
Warren Steel Targets August to Restart Operations
Wednesday, July 23, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved Wednesday a "unique arrangement" that will result in reduced electric rates for struggling producer Warren Steel Holdings LLC and allow that mill to reopen, according to documents.
Warren Steel submitted an application for reduced electricity rates June 4, contending that it was paying higher rates than its out-of-state competitors and causing it to lose business.
The company shuttered its plant on Mahoning Avenue in late March, but hasn't placed any of its approximately 200 employees on layoff.
Schwebel's to Resume Production 'Within 24 hours'
Wednesday, July 23, 2014The Schwebel Baking Co. announced shortly before 4 p.m. today that an "independent, certified lab" confirmed earlier today that the species of listeria found in its plant here does not pose a risk to public heallth.
“Full production at the Youngstown facility is expected to resume within 24 hours,” said the company's president, Paul Schwebel. “We remain focused on consumer safety. That goal guides our current efforts to get our Youngstown bakery back online and will allow us to produce our full range ofproducts for our loyal customers.”
Officials Hail 'Productive' Port Authority Meeting
Wednesday, July 23, 2014VIENNA, Ohio -- As it stands, the Board of Mahoning County Commissioners will not pull its funding for the Western Reserve Port Authority at its meeting tomorrow, say officials.
"That's not even an option at this point," Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti said after the port authority's regular meeting Wednesday morning. "This airport depends upon that money, the air base depends upon that money."
