Westminster Gets Grant to Monitor Water Quality
Wednesday, July 30, 2014NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Colcom Foundation in Pittsburgh has awareded funding to Westminster College that will allow it to expand its participation in the Lawrence and Mercer County Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring, the college announced Tuesday.
The grant will be used to buy more water quality monitoring equipment, to publicize the program, and outreach efforts to educate and recruit additional volunteers.
Amount of the grant was not disclosed.
Business Plan Contest for Pa. Women Seeks Entrants

More Ohioans Conduct Business with Government Online
Wednesday, July 30, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nearly 3.6 million adults in Ohio go online to conduct business with government offices, finds a report from Connect Ohio. That number represents 47% of all adult Internet users in the state.
Some 38% of Ohio Internet users go online to search for information about government services while 31% use the Internet to apply for government services or fill out forms at government websites, says the report "Making Government Accessible: e-Government Usage in Ohio" from Connect Ohio.
Farmers Offers to Buy Back Odd Lots of Stock
Tuesday, July 29, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp., holding company of Farmers National Bank and the Farmers Trust Co., announced today its offer to buy back odd lots of its stock, that is the stock of the 1,463 shareholders who own 99 or fewer shares.
The company is offering $7.69 a share, subject to Farmers’ terms and conditions. Trading in Farmers stock opened at $7.47 this morning.
The offer begins today and runs through Aug. 29.
Cumulus Youngstown Tops Among Company’s 90 Markets
Tuesday, July 29, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Cumulus Media, the Atlanta-based operator of 525 radio stations in 90 markets, today named its eight-state Youngstown group as tops in overall performance in the second quarter.
“The team in Youngstown has performed at record levels this year and is well deserving of this award,” said Jon Pinch, executive vice president and co-chief operating officer of Cumulus.
The company’s president’s cup is awarded every quarter. In addition to a trophy, the Cumulus Youngstown group shares a cash prize of $10,000 distributed across the station’s staff.
Covelli Centre Debt Inches Its Way Downward
Tuesday, July 29, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city plans to chip away at the debt it incurred in building the Covelli Centre and reduce the principal by $350,000 this year, the Youngstown finance director said Monday.
"We're going to reduce the debt this year from about $11 million down to $10,650,000," David Bozanich said after the finance committee of City Council met. "We've probably paid about $1 million of principal down to date. We're going to continue to bite away at that number as the years go on."
Cortland Bancorp Reports 2Q Net Income of $1.04M
Tuesday, July 29, 2014CORTLAND, Ohio -- Cortland Bancorp, holding company of Cortland Savings and Banking Co., Monday reported second-quarter net income of $1.04 million, or 23 cents per share.
This represents a 30% increase over second-quarter 2013 net income of $799,000, or 18 cents a share, and is below first-quarter net income of $1.33 million, or 29 cents a share.
With $30 Left to Buy Food, Ryan Responds to His Critics
Tuesday, July 29, 2014NILES, Ohio -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, estimates that he and his family will have about $30 to live on until Wednesday he says.
As part of the Live the Wage Challenge, the Ryan family has been living on $154, the equivalent of two people -- he and his wife -- working 40 hours per week at the federal minimum wage after paying for housing and taxes. Ryan began the challenge on Thursday and will finish tomorrow.
F.N.B. Gets Regulatory Approval for OBA Merger
Tuesday, July 29, 2014PITTSBURGH -- F.N.B. Corp. and OBA Financial Services Inc. today announced the receipt of all required regulatory clearances for their proposed merger.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has approved the merger of OBA Bank, the bank subsidiary of OBA Financial Services, based in Germantown, Md., into First National Bank of Pennsylvania, F.N.B.'s bank subsidiary. The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland also has granted F.N.B. a waiver of its merger application requirements.
