First Niles Financial Dividends Payable June 15
Monday, May 14, 2012NILES, Ohio -- First Niles Financial, Inc. has announced a cash dividend of 8 cents per share on common stock and 9 cents per share on preferred Class A stock for the second quarter of 2012. First Niles is the parent of Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Niles.
The dividend will be payable on June 15 to shareholders of record on June 1.
At March 31, Home Federal exceeded all its applicable regulatory capital requirements, according to Lawrence Safarek, president. First Niles had $105.6 million in assets and $13.5 million in stockholders equity.
Funded Status of U.S. Pensions Declines to 76.3%
Friday, May 11, 2012BOSTON -- The funded status of the typical U.S. corporate pension plan in April fell 3.5 percentage points to 76.3% last month. This is the first time this percentage has declined this year.
UCFC Reports First-Quarter Net Income of $3.8M

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – United Community Financial Corp., holding company of the Home Savings and Loan Co., Wednesday reported net income of $3.80 million, or 12 cents a share, for the quarter ended March 31.
This compares to net income of $7.93 million, or 25 cents a share, for the quarter ended Dec. 31 and $2.96 million, or 10 cents per share, the same quarter a year ago.
Home Prices Drop in Youngstown/Warren Region
Wednesday, May 09, 2012SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Home prices In Youngstown, Warren and Boardman declined by 3.3% in March compared to a year ago and by 5.1% in February compared with February 2011, reports CoreLogic. The figures include distressed sales, or short sales and real estate owned transactions.
Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year prices declined by 0.3% in March compared to and declined by 1.1 % in February year over year, according to the March Home Price Index from CoreLogic.
Huntington Bank Expands Network in Supermarkets
Thursday, May 03, 2012POLAND, Ohio – Huntington Bank has opened eight new full-service offices inside Giant Eagle supermarkets in the Mahoning Valley, part of its effort to open 40 such offices in the supermarket chain this year.
To staff these eight branches, Huntington has added 40 employees, Frank Hierro, president of the Mahoning Valley region, said Wednesday.
