Thursday, May 22, 2014WARREN, Ohio --As the chapter closes on one landmark business, a second chapter opens for another venture in this city's central business district.
Eastern Gateway Community College and its partner, Higher Education Partners Inc., announced today the purchase of the building that houses Mickey's Army-Navy, a longtime Warren establishment of 66 years that's now going out of business.
"It's bittersweet," sys Martin Cohen, owner of Mickey's. "We're an institution, but thank God it's being replaced with another institution."
Port Authority Chairman Resigns Amid Discord
Thursday, May 22, 2014VIENNA TOWNSHP, Ohio -- The Western Reserve Port Authority’s chairman, attorney James Floyd, is the latest member of the troubled board to tender his resignation.
In a letter to Mahoning County Commissioners dated May 14, Floyd, who became its chairman in January, submitted his resignation “with regret” from the board as both chairman and member. The resignation was effective following yesterday’s meeting of the port authority board.

International Steel & Counterweights is a subsidiary of AMG Resources Corp., Pittsburgh, which also owns Midwest Steel & Alloy here. ISC is in the process of acquiring the North West Ave. building where its operations are housed from GLG Industries, a division of Ken Greco Co.
McClendon Company Secures More Permits
Thursday, May 22, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- American Energy Utica LLC, a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based American Energy Partners LP, secured five new permits to drill in the southern tier of eastern Ohio's Utica shale last week, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The company, owned by former Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon, landed five permits May 12 for horizontal wells in Harrison County, Nottingham Township, ODNR reports.

International Institute Fund Awards $29,000 in Grants

The fund, a component of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, describes its mission as promoting the interests and understanding of foreign-born people.

US Travelers Eager to Get Away this Summer
