Lamb to Deliver YSU Skeggs Lecture Oct. 22
Monday, October 06, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Wally Lamb, author of four novels that made the best-seller list of The New York Times, will deliver the Skeggs Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in Stambaugh Auditorium.
The Skegg Lecture Committee at Youngstown State University did not provide the subject of his talk. The committee did say his presentation is free and open to the public but those who attend must present a ticket.
Slot Machine Revenues Drop at Pa. Casinos
Monday, October 06, 2014HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Revenue generated from playing slot machines at the 12 casinos in the Keystone State in September was $180,311,642, or 3.9% lower than September 2013, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reports.
Taxes paid were $96,417,980, the board said.
Slot machine revenue at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh was $21,518,302.43, down 2.55% from September 2013. At Presque Isle Downs and Casino in Erie, revenues of $9,972,834.53 represent a drop of 8.55%.
NYO Property Group Bids $1.7M for 20 Federal Place
Friday, October 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – NYO Property Group has submitted a proposal to purchase 20 Federal Place and a parking lot on Commerce Street from the city for $1.7 million plus interest, according to a bid document opened this afternoon at City Hall.
NYO was the sole entity to present a bid proposal to the city, which were due at noon today. Another party, VXI Global Solutions Inc. and the largest tenant at 20 Federal, submitted a letter of interest stating that it would prefer the city retain ownership of the building.
Canfield Projects, Plans Updated at Regional Chamber Event
Friday, October 03, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- The upcoming widening of the U.S. Route 224 bridge over state Route 11 here will cause unavoidable inconveniences, an Ohio Department of Transportation official acknowledged this morning, but the construction schedule hopefully will limit them, he said.
Jim Kinnick, planning and engineering administrator of ODOT District 4, outlined plans for the project at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber's Good Morning, Canfield breakfast.

But it’s not unusual for Columbiana Boiler Co. LLC. The company manufactures large kettles that are very long and narrow, in fact, the largest of their kind in the world.
“Fifteen years ago, we would’ve said shipping a 50,000-pound kettle was a large one,” says the president, Michael Sherwin. “Today, that’s our average. The largest we’ve shipped was more than 300,000 pounds and 82 feet long.”
