GM Lordstown to Install 2.2-Megawatt Solar Array
Tuesday, October 21, 2014LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- General Motors Co.’s installation of its new 2.2-megawatt ground-mounted solar array at its plant here will be complete by the January, the automaker announced this morning.
When the last of the more than 8,500 solar panels are in place, it will be GM’s largest solar installation in the Western Hemisphere, the company said.
Unemployment Rates Drop Across Mahoning Valley
Tuesday, October 21, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown’s unemployment rate last month was down three full percentage points from a year earlier, the latest state data show.
The city’s unemployment rate in September was 7.0%, down form 10% in September 2013 and from 7.7% in August, according to data released this morning but the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Warren’s unemployment drop was nearly as dramatic. Its unemployment rate in September was 6.0%, down 8.6% form a year earlier and down from 6.7% in August.
CCPA Seeks to Refinance Network Operations Center
Tuesday, October 21, 2014EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -- The Columbiana County Port Authority engaged the investment banking firm of Stern Brothers & Co. Monday night to find a buyer of the taxable adjustable-rate bonds it sold in 2006 to finance construction of the Network Operations Center building outside Leetonia.
The authority has $2.1 million in principal to repay the owner of the bonds, Fifth Third Bank. The original sum financed was $2.4 million.

Most 2014 College Grads' Jobs Don't Require Degree
Tuesday, October 21, 2014CHICAGO -- The majority of Class of 2014 college graduates are working. But 51% of that group are in jobs that don't require a degree, according to a new CareerBuilder survey.
This total includes 45% of four-year degree graduates and 57% of associate degree graduates.
Some 65% of recent college grads are employed, 4% are in internships, and 31% are not working at all, although many in the latter group simply haven't started their job search or are already back in school to pursue a higher degree, the survey found.
Partnership to Recognize Area School Districts

Regional Chamber Names Rossi Foundation President
Monday, October 20, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber this morning announced attorney John Rossi of Cortland as its foundation president.
Rossi will concentrate on support and growth for the foundation, which was formed in 1993 as one of the funding arms of the Regional Chamber’s economic development division.
He has served as a consultant to the chamber for the past two years, initiating the Route 422 Corridor Master Plan and leading the Youngstown Air Reserve Station’s enhancement efforts for the chamber. He will continue to lead these efforts in his new role.
