Car Buyers Flock to Valley Showrooms in June
Wednesday, July 09, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Despite a month marked by massive recalls at General Motors Co. and Toyota, customers in the tri-county region flocked to dealers' showrooms during June.
Sales of new cars and trucks in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties increased 10.6% compared to sales a year earlier, reports the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio in its monthly report. Combined new- and used-vehicle sales were also up 10%, the reported noted.
Ribbon Cut at Northside Medical Center's 'New Face'
Wednesday, July 09, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – During the expansion and renovation project at Northside Medical Center, emergency department operations were “kind of similar to changing a tire when you’re rolling down the road,” says Neal Tishman, D.O. and chairman of its department of emergency medicine.
A few miles remain on that journey, but officials at Northside and its parent, ValleyCare Health Systems of Ohio, joined community leaders Tuesday morning to cut the ribbon on the new 30,000-square-foot tower that officially opens Monday.

Wednesday, July 09, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Through the first half of the year, the Mahoning Valley economy continued to improve, leaders of economic development agencies report.
Most of that growth has been in the manufacturing sector, highlighted by the announcements that Laird Technologies will relocate its entire operation in Sharpsville, Pa. to Warren and that VAM, a Vallourec subsidiary, will undertake an $82 million expansion projected to create some 80 jobs.

GM Offers Vehicle Discounts to Educators
Wednesday, July 09, 2014DETROIT -- Through Jan. 2, 2015, current employees of a public or private school, university or college are eligible to participate in General Motors’ new GM Educator Discount program, the company announced Tuesday. As such, they can receive what GM terms a “significant” discount on the purchase or lease of a new 2014 or 2015 Chevrolet, Buick or other GM vehicle.
All 2014 and 2015 Chevrolet, Buick and GMC models are eligible except the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Spark EV.
Pa. Spends $49.8M on Housing in Marcellus Region
Wednesday, July 09, 2014HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Since 2011, $49.8 million from natural gas and federal funding sources has been devoted to housing initiatives across the Marcellus shale play within the Keystone State, Gov. Tom Corbett said Tuesday.
The impact of that funding has been multiplied by leveraging it to attract additional investments of $311.5 million from the private sector and other public sources, according to Corbett.
Cleveland Selected as Site for 2016 GOP Convention
Tuesday, July 08, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Republican National Committee’s Site Selection Committee today announced that it wants the party’s 2016 national convention to be held in Cleveland.
It will be the first national political convention to be held in Ohio since 1936.

Coalition Seeks Plan to Manage Water Resources

Healthy Water Ohio -- an amalgam of business and industry, conservation, agriculture, academia and water suppliers based in Columbus -- announced Monday the formation of a 16-member steering committee intended to guide the group.
