NAMII Secures $5 Million Grant to Fund Research

Mahoning Commissioners Propose TIF Plan for Racino
Friday, September 20, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Mahoning County commissioners will vote this week on a proposed a tax increment financing, or TIF, plan that could generate as much as $8 million over the next 10 years for infrastructure projects at or in the vicinity of the new Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Austintown.
Commissioner David Ditzler said the plan would allow the county to take 50% of the tax revenue generated by project owner Penn National Gaming Inc. and place it into a fund that could be used to pay for roadway and sewer improvements along thoroughfares near the racetrack.
Grove City College Dedicates $39.5 Million STEM Hall
Friday, September 20, 2013GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The $39.5 million STEM Hall at Grove City College was dedicated Thursday evening as alumni, faculty and students gathered for a ceremony in the STEM Hall Courtyard and a reception and open house inside the 68,300-square-foot building.
STEM Hall, which has been in use by students and faculty since the semester started in August, offers laboratory and study spaces designed to foster opportunities for collaborative interaction.
EPA Proposes Pollution Standards for Power Plants
Friday, September 20, 2013WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today proposed Clean Air Act standards to cut carbon pollution from new power plants in order to combat climate change and improve public health – standards that Consol Energy termed “punitive CO2 limits … which will result in fewer choices to fuel our country.”
Today’s proposal achieves the first milestone outlined in President Obama’s June 25 Memorandum to EPA on “Power Sector Carbon Pollution Standards,” a major part of the president’s climate action plan, the agency said.

Sales of Houses Jump Throughout Ohio August
Friday, September 20, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The number of houses sold across Ohio increased 16.9% in August compared with August 2012 as the real estate agents posted year-over-year gains in activity for the 26th consecutive month, the Ohio Association of Realtors announced Thursday.
Sales in the 17-county region that includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties were up 11.7%.

Literary Society Hosts Best-Selling Author
Friday, September 20, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Jessica Fellowes, author and freelance journalist, will join guests at a reception and dinner at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at Stambaugh Auditorium. She is the author of The World of Downton Abbey and its sequel, The Chronicles of Downton Abbey.
Fellowes is a niece of Julian Fellowes, creator of the hit TV series.
The evening marks the 10th Literary Society Author Event of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.
