Ohio to Remove Social Security Numbers from Pay Stubs

Montgomery and Ohio Department of Administrative Services Director Scott Johnson are jointly removing Social Security numbers from the pay stubs of more than 60,000 state employees starting Aug. 20.
Student Loans on Increase at YSU
Wednesday, August 04, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Interest rates on student loans are at a historic low, and more Youngstown State University students and families are taking advantage of them, says Elaine Ruse, director of the YSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Last academic year, YSU processed $43.7 million in Stafford and PLUS loans, more than double the $19.5 million in the 1999-2000 academic year.Rates for federally subsidized (for students that qualify by income level) and unsubsidized loans, or Stafford Loans, are now 3.37%, down from 3.42% a year ago and 8.19% in 2001, Ruse notes.

July is Best Sales Month This Year for General Motors
Wednesday, August 04, 2004DETROIT -- General Motors had its best sales month so far this year in July, as dealers sold 459,263 new cars and trucks. The total was down 3%, however, compared to very strong year-ago sales.GM's overall truck sales for July (278,454 units) were down 3% from record year-ago levels, while car sales (180,809 units) declined 4.5%.Sales of the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire, produced at GM's assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio, were down substantially for July.
Tri-State 1st Banc Nets $209,104 for Second Quarter"
Wednesday, August 04, 2004EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -- Tri-State 1st Banc Inc., parent company of 1st National Community Bank and Gateminder Corp., reports net income for the second quarter ended June 30 of $209,104, or 23 cents per diluted share. This is an increase of 15.9% from $180,483, or 20 cents per share, for the second quarter of 2003. The increase in the net income was primarily the result of a 14.1% drop in total interest expense and a 17.3% increase in other operating income.

The new plate design will be offered in addition to the Marblehead Lighthouse license plate, which has been Ohio's most popular specialty license plate since its introduction in 1993.
