Niles Consultant Named ‘Diversity Catalyst’ at KSU
Tuesday, August 05, 2014KENT, Ohio -- Vicki Haywood Doe, Ph.D., of Haywood Doe Consulting Co. LLC, Niles, has been appointed diversity catalyst at the College of Education, Health and Human Services, the university announced Monday.
Doe is the first person named to the newly created post.
She will work on behalf of the college and its office of diversity outreach and development.
Also during the 2014-2015 academic year, she will connect with disciplines within the college that fit her line of work.
Cortland Banks Joins YNDC to Boost Home Ownership
Tuesday, August 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Cortland Banks and the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. today announced a strategic collaboration to provide a mortgage loan program that will offer first mortgage financing on homes rehabilitated by YNDC in city neighborhoods.
Cortland Banks has committed $300,000 to the program, which will assist prospective homebuyers who may not qualify for conventional loan products to secure mortgage financing with favorable terms, while furthering YNDC’s mission to bolster revitalization in strategic neighborhoods, officials said.
Group Collects Signatures for 4th Vote on Fracking
Tuesday, August 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Community Bill of Rights Committee says it has surpassed its goal of collecting enough signatures on petitions to add another fracking ban charter amendment to the November municipal ballot.
Members of the committee and supporters will hold a news conference today outside for the official announcement and to offer remarks before delivering the petitions to the Youngstown Clerk of Council.
Mahoning County Tourism Totals $751M Impact
Tuesday, August 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Visitors to Mahoning County generated $751 million in business activity, directly and indirectly, in 2013, according to a study commissioned by TourismOhio.
Mary Cusick, director of the state tourism agency, will outline economic impact of tourism across Ohio’s 32-county Appalachian Region, which includes Mahoning County, at a meeting Wednesday of members of Ohio’s Appalachian Country.
Farmers Bank to Open Alliance Branch in 2015
Tuesday, August 05, 2014ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Work is underway on Farmers National Bank’s newest branch office here, which is expected to open in late spring 2015. The new office is under construction at 210 West State St., directly across from the University of Mount Union.
The Alliance branch, which will offer a comprehensive slate of financial services, will occupy space in the new Gateway Shopping Center. and expand Farmers’ presence in Stark County, the company says. The 2,000-square-foot building will feature nontraditional teller pods and a two-lane drive-thru area.

EGCC Tuition 48th Lowest Net Price in US
Tuesday, August 05, 2014STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The net price of attending Eastern Gateway Community College is 48th lowest in the United States, according to newly released date from the U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics. The net price at EGCC is $3,362, compared to the national average of $7,163 among all 1,200 public two-year institutions of higher education.
Net price at Eastern Gateway is the second-lowest among two-year colleges in Ohio and lowest in its service district.

Program to Showcase 3-D Business Opportunities
Monday, August 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A new partnership by the Youngstown Business Incubator and Youngstown State University aims to bring home to high school students the business opportunities that additive manufacturing represents for them.
A $10,000 grant from the AT&T foundation will fund development of the summer program, expected to take place next year. YBI will provide funding support through its sand-core printing initiative with the foundry industry, which has an educational component.
Notar Donato Named Manager of GM Lordstown
Monday, August 04, 2014LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- General Motors Co. has named Steve Notar Donato its Lordstown Complex plant manager, the automaker announced today. The appointment was effective Aug. 1.
Donato formerly was the plant manager at GM's stamping plant in Marion, Ind. He replaces Bob Parcell, who was promoted to manufacturing manager, GM International Operations, based in Singapore.
