Construction Contracts Awarded for Canfield Library
Friday, September 12, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The board of trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County selected Hudson Construction Inc. of Hermitage, Pa., as general contractor for the new Canfield Branch Library at its meeting Thursday.
Hudson submitted a bid of $3.1 million for the new library. It will be built on the site of the current building, which will close at the end of business Sept. 20 so that the building can be emptied in preparation for construction.
Esmark to Convert Mill to Tri-Modal Terminal
Friday, September 12, 2014PITTSBURGH -- Esmark Inc. says it is converting the former Ohio Cold Rolling Co. steel finishing mill in Yorkville, Ohio, into a tri-modal industrial services terminal to support companies engaged in oil and gas exploration and production in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.
Esmark, which two years ago acquired the Yorkville steel finishing mill from bankrupt RG Steel and recently announced its closing, will repurpose the one million-square-foot facility into the newly named Yorkville Energy Services Terminal.

Hospitality Industry Job Openings Top 500,000
Friday, September 12, 2014WASHINGTON -- Job openings in the hospitality sector topped 500,000 for the seventh consecutive month in July, the first such occurrence since before the Great Recession. While the industry isn’t facing a labor shortage, the gap between monthly hires and job openings is rapidly shrinking, the National Restaurant Association said Thursday.
The rate of open jobs in the restaurants-and-accommodations sector remained near a post-recession high in July, say the latest figures from the job openings and labor turnover program of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But even with those “bumps in the road,” Turner Construction Co., Cleveland, construction manager for the racino project, and laborers “did a great job” of finishing the 100,000-square-foot project ahead of schedule, allowing an earlier opening date than the planned October start, he said.
