Cafaro Headquarters Moving to Eastwood Complex
Wednesday, October 15, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Cafaro Co. announced this morning it will confirm at a press event next week that its new corporate headquarters is under construction at the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles, and that it will leave its longtime headquarters on Belmont Avenue here.
The press event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Center Court of Eastwood Mall in Niles where the real estate developer says it “unveil the plans for this major new development.” News of an additional multimillion-dollar will also be announced at the event.
September, YTD House Sales Off Slightly from 2013
Wednesday, October 15, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- September home sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties were down slightly from a year earlier, and year-to-date sales are off from 2013 by a similar degree.
A total of 438 were sold in the three counties last month, down from 465 in September 2013, shows the latest report from Centralized Real Estate Information Services Multiple Listing Service. Members of the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors and the Warren Area Board of Realtor report their monthly sales to the service. In August, 747 houses were sold in the three counties.

Chamber Backs Common Core, Opposes H.B. 597
Wednesday, October 15, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s board of directors announced it voted to oppose Ohio House Bill 597, which would eliminate the Common Core learning standards in the state’s public schools.
In a news release announcing the board’s decision, the Regional Chamber said repealing Common Core would place a “tremendous burden on local school districts and educational service centers which have spent considerable time and money over the last four years preparing for implementation.”
YSU Business College Info Session at Lorain
Wednesday, October 15, 2014ELYRIA, Ohio -- The director and the coordinator of the graduate program in business administration at Youngstown State University will hold an information session at Lorain County Community College at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 as YSU prepares to hold classes there next January that lead to an MBA.
The information session will be held in the Loft Room 119 of University Center, 1005 Abbe Road North.
Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley Hires 3
Wednesday, October 15, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has added three staff members, Linda Kostka, Casey Bertolette and Janet Byrne. They are filling positions created after three previous posts became vacant earlier this year.
Kostka was named coordinator of development and donor services, Bertolette coordinator of supporting organizations and grant-making, and Byrne office manager.
Rotary, Grow Youngstown Get Saucy Oct. 26
Wednesday, October 15, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- "Not Your Nonna's Sauce Cook-Off" is set for Oct. 26 at Mt. Carmel Church here raise funds for Grow Youngstown and Rotary Club of Youngstown.
Ticket holders will receive three servings of pasta (wheat, gluten-free and spaghetti squash are available) and choose from more than 20 sauces. Tickets cover a salad, choice of nonalcoholic beverage and desert. Other tickets for beer and wine will be for sale.
2015 Nominees Announced for 25 Under 35 Awards
Tuesday, October 14, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Valley Young Professionals and the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley today announced the nominees for the 25 Under 35 awards.
A committee comprised of club members and foundation employees selected the nominees.
The awards ceremony will be held Feb. 5 at Stambaugh Auditorium, where three of the nominees will be named MVPs. Proceeds from the dinner event benefit the Young Philanthropist Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation.

US Business Increases Spending for Domestic Travel

This rise comes despite a slight year-over-year reduction of 0.1% in the number of trips taken in the second quarter.
