Avalon Holdings Names Bryan P. Saska Treasurer, CFO
Thursday, December 04, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Bryan P. Saska has been named treasurer and chief financial officer of Avalon Holdings Corp., Howland Township, effective Dec. 1. He replaces Timothy C. Coxson, who resigned the post.
Coxson continues his employment at Avalon Holdings as director of corporate financial services and reports to Ronald E. Klingle, board chairman. Coxson is assisting Saksa during the transition.
Aviation Museum Event to Honor Howland WWII Pilot
Thursday, December 04, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Donald R. Freer, a World War II veteran and former prisoner of war, will be honored Dec. 5 at the Ernie Hall Aviation Museum. The event, which will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and remarks at 7 p.m., will mark the 70th anniversary of Freer’s survival after he was shot down in combat over Berlin.
Some 40 friends and family members are expected to attend the event, which is being hosted by the aviation museum.
Community Foundation Awards $136,000 in Grants
Wednesday, December 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley disbursed $136,000 in third-quarter grants to 18 nonprofit organizations in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, its executive director, Shari Harrell, announced today.
The funds were sent the 18 organizations in late September.
CCPA CEO Drake Named to Who’s Who in Energy List
Wednesday, December 03, 2014EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -- Tracy Drake, CEO of the Columbiana County Port Authority, has been named to the Who’s Who in Energy List for 2014/2015 by the American City Business Journals, Columbus edition.
Drake is among 134 professionals named to the list in Ohio and 900 named in seven energy markets throughout the United States. This is the second consecutive year Drake was named to the list.
Youngstown Plans for Friday Holiday Celebration

The festivities will begin with attractions such as roasted chestnuts, live holiday music performances and carriage rides in Central Square beginning at 4:30 p.m. The holiday parade begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the tree lighting and pictures with Santa Claus in 20 Federal Place and horse and carriage rides at 6:30 p.m.
Meeks to Visit White House, Previews Warren Center

President Obama and his wife, Michelle, and Vice President Joe Biden are expected to attend the event, Meeks said Tuesday. It is Meeks’ second invitation to the White House in two years.
