Akron-Canton Airport Passenger Total Sets Record
GREEN, Ohio -- Northeast Ohio travelers are continuing to use Akron-Canton Airport in record numbers, reports Fred Krum, airport director. In the first quarter of the year, 290,000 total passengers used the airport, a nearly 22% increase compared to the same quarter of 2003.Additionally, the Airport posted the highest ever April traffic, with 109,405 passengers compared to 91,500 last year. Traffic will continue to grow in the months to come as AirTran Airways adds daily nonstop service to Boston starting June 5, Krum says. "First quarter boardings are right on target and folks are going to save some beans to Boston," Krum says. "We constantly hear from valued customers how much they appreciate our easy-to-use terminal." Under construction is a $24 million concourse featuring additional concessions and a shorter walk to the gates, he adds.AirTran Airways, Delta Connection and Northwest Airlink posted double-digit percentage gains in the first quarter of 2004 compared to 2003. The Airport is currently in the third phase of the $60 million, five-year expansion project, which will focus on building a new $24 million gate concourse and a new Shuffel Road interchange. The first two phases included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing, additional car parking and a food court with national brands.Visit the Akron-Canton Airport: www.akroncantonairport.com"
