Actress Remembers Deadly 1911 Factory Fire in Monologue
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Actress Paula Jasper will perform a monologue titled "Fire" this month on the Youngstown State University campus. The presentation is set in March 1912, one year after the death of 146 workers at the Triangle Shirt Factory fire in New York. Jasper's character is a woman who survived the fire and seeks to empower women, through informing them of her struggle and triumph. The fire had a significant impact on labor legislation conditions in the United States.The presentation originally was commissioned by the Youngstown Business and Professional Women's Club. Jasper worked over a decade in Boston touring New England as an actress and director. She directed and performed at many educational cites throughout northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. She is a registered artist with the Pennsylvania Council of Arts, offering workshops and performances throughout Pennsylvania, underwritten in part by the Arts Council of Erie Arts in Education Program.The presentation is sponsored by the Arts Council of Youngstown/ Mahoning County, the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County with support from the Youngstown State University Diversity Council and the Williamson College of Business Administration. Jasper will perform March 8 at 4 p.m. and March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ohio Room in Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The presentations are free and open to the public.
