20% of Warren/Youngstown Employers Plan to Hire
WARREN, Ohio --Warren/Youngstown area employers expect to hire at a healthy pace during the second quarter of 2005, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey released this morning. From April to June, 20% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while none expect to reduce their payrolls, said Dennis Yurco, Manpower spokesperson at the office here.Another 80% expect to maintain their current staff levels."Hiring intentions in the Warren/Youngstown area are similar to those reported in the first quarter when 23% of the companies interviewed intended to add staff, and 3% planned to reduce headcount," Yurco noted."Employers are more positive about hiring than they were a year ago when 13% of companies surveyed thought employment increases were likely and none intended to cut back."In other regions of northeast Ohio, however, hiring projections are higher. Some 37% of Akron employers surveyed, for instance, say they'll add staff in the second quarter. Comparatively, 24% of Canton employers say the same, as do 28% of those in the Cleveland-Lorain/Elyria region. Statewide, 26% of all employers surveyed expect more hires through June. For the coming quarter, job prospects in the Youngstown/Warren area appear best in Construction, Durable Goods Manufacturing, Wholesale/Retail Trade and Services, Yurco said. Hiring in Non-Durable Goods Manufacturing, Transportation/Public Utilities, Finance/Insurance/Real Estate, Education and Public Administration is expected to remain unchanged.Srong hiring activity also is expected to continue nationally, the survey found. Of the 16,000 U.S. employers surveyed, 30% plan to add staff in the second quarter, while 7% expect to reduce payrolls. Fully 58% of the hiring managers polled anticipate no change in staff levels for the coming quarter, and 5% are unsure of their hiring plans. When seasonal variations are removed from the data, the net employment outlook is the same as it was for the first three months of the year and is similar to last year at this time.In fact, this marks the fifth consecutive quarter in which employers have reported hiring expectations that rival those last seen in the beginning months of 2001.Manpower Inc. is an employment services company that specializes in permanent, temporary and contract recruitment; employee assessment; training; career transition; organizational consulting services and professional financial services.Visit Manpower Inc.: www.manpower.com"
