$168K for Low-Income Housing Project in Lawrence County, Pa."
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Housing Authority of Lawrence County today received $168,000 from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh toward the $2.9 million it will spend on 30 units of rental housing for low-income residents and homeless individuals. It is part of an effort by Hosanna Industries Inc., Rochester, to provide funding from FHLB grants for 168 affordable housing units in five western Pennsylvania communities. The other four are in Beaver County: Aliquippa (two units, $20,000), Freedom (six units, $50,000), Midland (10 units, $200,000) and Rochester (120 units, $100,000).The Federal Home Loan Bank funding supplements other funding Hosanna has secured. Total cost of the projects, $4.9 million. Hosanna, says a FHLB statement, "is a leader in the field of 'blitz building' affordable housing for low-income, elderly, physically and mentally challenged and homeless persons."In New Castle, the Dale Country Estates Project will develop 30 low-income units, 24 of which will be designated for low-income families and at least six allocated for homeless individuals. "The homeless will most likely be elderly parents who are 'doubling up' with their adult children or who are living in an institutional setting because they have no permanent residence," says an FHLB statement. "The Lawrence County Housing Authority will ensure all residents' needs are addressed by social services agencies, and it is anticipated the Office of Aging will provide a variety of on-site services in the project's atrium. Lawrence County Social Services will provide case management support and home management/chore services."A ceremony was to be held this morning at Hosanna's headquarters in Rochester where U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart, R-4th Pa., and the president of the Pittsburgh FHLB, James D. Roy, announced funding for the projects."
