GOP's Ryan to Headline Event at YSU Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will headline what Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign is calling a "Victory Town Hall" Saturday morning at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. Saturday; doors will open at 7:45 a.m., according to the advisory sent by the campaign. Those planning to attend the event are advised they will go through “airport-like security” and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids or signs will be allowed in the venue, but cameras are permitted.
The visit comes as Ohio maintains its critical role in the presidential contest. Republicans are emboldened by what is widely seen as Romney’s commanding performance in last week’s debate, the first of three scheduled between him and President Barack Obama, whose showing was equally widely panned. Several recent polls have moved in Romney’s favor over the past week, although Obama is still seen as having the edge in Ohio, a state deemed crucial for Romney’s chances to win the Electoral College.
Ryan, who stopped by Warren’s Original Hot Dog Shoppe in August less than a week after being named by Romney as his running mate, will face Vice President Joe Biden tonight in the only scheduled debate between the vice presidential candidates. Earlier this week New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie campaigned in Lordstown on behalf of the GOP ticket.
In March, just prior to the Ohio primary, Romney spoke at the Brilex Taylor Winfield Technologies.
Obama spoke in Poland in July and Biden has appeared twice in the Mahoning Valley this year, speaking in Youngstown and Lordstown.
Tickets for Saturday’s event are available at the Youngstown Victory Center, 621 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, and the Niles Victory Center, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles, or online.
