ValleyCare to Add Tower at Northside Medical Center
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – ValleyCare Health System will break ground next month on a 30,000-square-foot tower at Northside Medical Center and modernize more than 28,000 square feet of space in the existing hospital, ValleyCare announced this afternoon.
A fourth-quarter 2014 completion date is anticipated for the tower addition, which will expand Northside's emergency department and create a new main entrance to the hospital. The project is part of a five-year, $80 million capital commitment made when Community Health Systems Inc. purchased the primary operating assets of the former Forum Health Inc. in 2010.
"These improvements will enhance our No. 1 priority – delivering quality care to our patients," Kirk Ray, ValleyCare CEO, said in a news release. "These changes will also support our dedicated health-care professionals by making hospital resources more accessible and efficient."
The new first-floor lobby in the three-story addition will include registration, pre-admission testing, waiting rooms, a gift shop and an information center. Surgical services will be combined in a single location by moving outpatient surgery to the second floor adjacent to existing surgical suites.
"Northside has served the residents of the Mahoning Valley for more than a century," said Sandy Kessler, Northside board chairman. "With these developments, it will be positioned to continue care for another 100 years."
Other aspects of the expansion include 21 additional private patient holding rooms. On the third floor, endoscopy suites will be enhanced with a new waiting area and the addition of two endoscopy suites and a bronchoscopy room.
