Unions at Hillside, Trumbull Memorial OK Pacts
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Two unions representing workers at hospitals operated by ValleyCare Health System of Ohio ratified new collective bargaining agreements, the health-care system announced Thursday.
Employees at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland, represented by the Ohio Nurses Association, approved an agreement that expires Nov. 30, 2015, while Trumbull Memorial Hospital employees, represented by the Service Employees International Union, have a new contract that expires Jan. 31, 2016.
SEIU members and other labor organizations protested outside Trumbull Memorial last year to call attention to concerns regarding staffing levels.
"We have reached mutually acceptable agreements with the ONA at Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital and SEIU at Trumbull Memorial Hospital and their represented employees through a productive collective bargaining process," said Trish Hrina, marketing director for ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, in a written statement announcing the agreements. "The professionalism and commitment of our employees is a key part of our ability to provide quality, personalized care for our patients."
ValleyCare was formed by Community Health Systems Inc., based in Nashville, Tenn., after it purchased the assets of the former Forum Health. Locally it operates Northside Medical Center, Trumbull Memorial in Warren, and Hillside.
