Panera Bread to Host 'Go Pink Day' Oct. 1
WARREN, Ohio – Covelli Enterprises and Panera Bread will donate 100% of the proceeds from sales of its Pink Ribbon bagels Oct. 1 at the six Mahoning Valley Panera Bread bakery-cafes to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center in Youngstown.
The annual Go Pink Day event kicks off Covelli and Panera’s commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, during which 10% of the proceeds from each Pink Ribbon bagel will be donated to the center in support of the Joanie’s Promise Fund, which provides access to the center’s services regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. The center is located at St. Elizabeth Health Center, which is operated by Humility of Mary Health Partners.
Last year, 16,000 Pink Ribbon bagels were sold during Go Pink Day, raising $13,000 for the center. This year Youngstown State University sorority Zeta Tau Alpha will match the amount raised through the Pink Ribbon bagel sales. The funds raised from both the bagel sales and the ZTA match will be presented at the annual Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic at YSU Oct. 27.
“We appreciate the generosity of Covelli Enterprises and the support of the community for events like the Panerathon and the Go Pink bagel sales. These on-going efforts are what keep Joanie’s Promise alive and help us get closer to achieving the center’s primary goal: to decrease the breast cancer mortality rate in our Valley,” said Jonathon Fauvie of the HMHP Foundation. “This community truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients and we are blessed and grateful for all of the support we continue to receive.”
