Northside to Hold Topping-Off Ceremony Today
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A topping-off ceremony is planned for 1 p.m. today to mark the end of construction for the first phase of Northside Medical Center’s $20 million expansion and renovation project. Following a brief ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to sign a steel beam that will be placed at the top of the hospital’s new atrium.
Ground was officially broken in July on the project, which involves constructing a 30,000-square-foot patient tower at the Northside campus and renovating 28,000 square feet of existing space. The project will add 21 private patient rooms and upgrade the hospital’s emergency department. The new tower will feature a main lobby with registration area, pre-admission testing, waiting area, gift shop and information center.
Northside is operated by ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, the local affiliate of Community Health Systems Inc. formed following CHS’s purchase in 2010 of the primary operating assets of Forum Health.
When completed in late 2014, the project will be the largest investment made at Northside in 15 years. The project is part of $80 million CHS pledged to spend over five years when it purchased the Forum assets at a bankruptcy auction.
