Lake Milton Man Pleads Guilty to Workers' Comp Fraud
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- William Mcie of Lake Milton pleaded guilty last month to one count of workers' compensation fraud for working while receiving workplace-injury benefits from Ohio. He is one of six individuals convicted of, or pleaded guilty to, charges related to defrauding the state system in February and will be sentenced April 2.
The findings of guilty are the result of investigations the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation Special Investigations Department conducted. The department works to deter, detect, investigate and prosecute workers' compensation fraud.
The department received an allegation that Mcie was working as a self-employed carpenter. Mcie was observed arriving at more than one work site and at suppliers.
Interviews with Mcie's customers and suppliers confirmed he returned to work while concurrently receiving temporary total disability benefits between May 2008 and September 2012. Other convictions in February were of individuals from Hocking, Summit, Butler and Allen counties.
