Former Boston Celtics Guard to Discuss His Addiction
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Former pro basketball star Chris Herren will talk about his struggles with and triumph over addiction at a presentation Sunday in Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
The free event is co-sponsored by YSU and Meridian Community Care.
Herren is a former Boston Celtics guard and founder of Hoop Dreams, a basketball player development company.
His battles with substance abuse while playing in the National Basketball Association cut his promising careershort. Drug- and alcohol-free since August 2008, he now lectures on avoiding the pitfalls of addiction and also works with families whose loved ones are battling the disease.
