AFSCME Members at TMH Ratify New Contract
WARREN, Ohio – Service workers represented by Local 2804 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees have ratified a new contract with Trumbull Memorial Hospital, ValleyCare Health System of Ohio announced today.
The contract, which expires March 31, 2016, is the fifth labor agreement since November Vthat alleyCare hospitals have successfully concluded, the company noted in its announcement.Last month, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital employees represented by AFSCME 2288 ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with ValleyCare. In December, TMH employees represented by the Service Employees International Union District 1199 and Hillside employees represented by the Ohio Nurses Association ratified contracts. TMH registered nurses represented by AFSCME Local 2026 reached an agreement in November.
The five agreements have similar terms, and each includes annual wage increases, as well as comprehensive benefits including health insurance, according to ValleyCare. Employees covered under the new agreements include registered nurses and service, technical, maintenance and professional workers.
“These agreements have all been reached through productive and respectful discussions during the collective bargaining process,” said Trish Hrina, vice president of marketing and public relations for ValleyCare. “We are pleased to be moving forward with these represented employees in our shared commitment to serve the health-care needs of our community.
Last month, members of the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association, which represents registered nurses at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, picketed the hospital as part of a national protest. YGDNA members have been without a contract there since July.
ValleyCare was formed following Community Health Systems Inc.'s purchase in 2010 of Trumbull Memorial, Northside, Hillside, in Howland, and other assets of the now-defunct Forum Health system. The local CHS units adopted the ValleyCare branding two years ago.
