$2M MRI at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning
BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Pediatric patients in neeed of an MRI exam can benefit from of the Magnetom Aera 1.5T MRI now in operation at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Project cost is put at $2 million.
The 1.5T MRI, made by Siemens Healthcare, “is a great asset” to radiologists at the Beeghly Campus, said Michael Rubin, chairman of its radiology department, because it allows them to make even more accurate diagnoses. “The addition of this new MRI scanner will expand access to diagnostic imaging that supports a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, fetal and oncology,” he said in a prepared statement.
The MRI features exclusive Tim 4G and Dot technology that provides patients with faster and more efficient exams. It also has an open-bore design that helps reduce the closed-in feeling patients often experience with the older generation of MRIs. Many exams can be performed with the patient’s head outside of the system, making it a good option for claustrophobic patients, Rubin said.
This newest MRI at the Beeghly campus is one of four within the Akron Children’s Hospital system, the other three at the Akron campus.
Akron Children’s has been caring for children from Youngstown, Warren and surrounding communities more than 50 years. The Beeghly Campus here is a 32-bed pediatric hospital.
