GasBuddy Reports 13.4-Cent Drop in Prices
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Average retail gasoline prices in Ohio fell 13.4 cents per gallon during the past week, averaging $3.36 per gallon Sunday, a daily survey of 5,345 gas outlets in Ohio showed. This compares with the national average that has fallen 5.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.52 per gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
At some gas stations in Mahoning County, gasoline prices were $3.42 per gallon on Sunday, according to a quick visual survey by The Business Journal.
Including the change in gas prices in Ohio during the past week, prices yesterday were 42.5 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 32.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 13.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 37.0 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
"The national average continues to be driven down as oil prices have fallen in recent weeks," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst. "The year-on-year savings is approaching 40 cents a gallon in some spots -- not necessarily hitting the lottery, but every cent counts. As we get closer to Memorial Day there's also the chance of an increase in pricing volatility thanks to refinery maintenance season that will be gradually coming to a close."
