Fire Chief: Cause of Emerald Diner May Never Be Known
HUBBARD, Ohio -- The cause may never be determined for a fire that broke out overnight that destroyed the landmark Emerald Diner here, the city’s fire chief said.
Firefighters had the blaze, which was called in at 4:41 a.m., “completely under control” within minutes, said Hubbard Fire Chief Ron Stanish. Hot spots remained in the roof and were extinguished around 6:30 or so, he said.
As of now the cause of the fire is undetermined. “We may never find a cause,” he said.
Stanish described damage to the dining portion of the diner as “extensive,” and there was a lot of heat and smoke damage to the kitchen. He estimated total monetary value of the damages at $80,000 to $100,000.
A total of 17 firefighters from the Eagle Joint Fire District as well as two firefighters from Brookfield responded to the fire, he said.
Four fire trucks and one command vehicle were on hand. Traffic had been blocked in both directions to fight the fire at the diner, which is located on North Main Street, but was restored in one lane by 7 a.m.
