YSU Hosts 2-Day Forum on Sustainable Energy
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – More than 200 academicians, energy industry leaders, government officials and entrepreneurs are expected to converge this morning on the Youngstown State University campus for the 2012 Sustainable Energy Forum.
Marc Gerken, president of American Municipal Power, will deliver the keynote address, following remarks by YSU President Cynthia Anderson; U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio; and Jason Walsh, senior advisor, U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The event takes place at YSU’s Kilcawley Center.
The two-day forum’s focus is on technology ready for commercialization, particularly technologies that will have a near-term positive impact on commercial, industrial and residential energy savings. The event looks at sustainable and other clean energy technologies being implemented within the region. Among its key objectives is promoting collaboration among attendees.
Today’s program also includes a luncheon address by Craig Butler, assistant policy director, energy, agriculture and environment, for the office of Gov. John Kasich, who will speak on “The Ohio Energy Landscape: Policy and Geologic Drivers to Diversifying Our Energy Portfolio.” The schedule includes sessions moderated by Barb Ewing, chief operating officer of the Youngstown Business incubator; Dave Nestic, CEO of the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center; and Kristin Malosh, manager – environment, health and safety, V&M Star.
Tuesday's technical sessions include such topics as renewables, waste-to-energy, natural gas, water resources, vehicle electrification, energy management, small nuclear, and grid/ storage.
