YSU Fundraising Reaches Record High for Fiscal Year
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University announced today a record fundraising year, amounting to more than $10 million in private support from alumni, corporations, foundations and friends in the 2012-13 fiscal year.
The previous record was $6.4 million in fiscal year 2007-08.
“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of philanthropic support this year,” said YSU's president, Cynthia E. Anderson. “Our alumni and friends in the community and across the nation have helped us achieve an incredible milestone that will benefit our students and raise the profile of Youngstown State University. We are grateful.”
Scott Evans, vice president for university advancement, said the majority of the funds will be received over a period of years. He attributed the success to the enthusiasm and support for Anderson’s vision and leadership during her presidency. Anderson retires June 30.
Charitable giving increased three-fold over last year, reaching $10,388,380. Approximately 4,587 donors have provided support to YSU since July 1, 2012, with a few days remaining in the fiscal year ending June 30.
Approximately 54% of the total dollars received this year were directed by donors to scholarships, while 12% was restricted by donors to capital projects. Colleges, academic programs, athletics and other initiatives were enhanced with the remaining balance of approximately 34%.

- $1.2 million from the James and Coralie Centofanti Charitable Foundation to establish a new center of health and welfare of vulnerable populations and provide support for the YSU Veterans Resource Center capital project.
