YSU Engineering School Among Best in Class
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The undergraduate engineering program at Youngstown State University places in the top 25% in the world, according to newly released rankings by U.S. News and World Report.
YSU is 45th out of 203 schools in the ranking of undergraduate engineering programs authorized by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, among those that do not offer a doctoral degree. There are more than 500 ABET-accredited schools in the world.
Placing No. 1 in the rankings is Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, followed by Harvey Mudd College and the U.S. Military Academy. Ranked with YSU at 45th are Northern Arizona University, New York Institute of Technology, University of Arkansas-Little Rock, California State University-Northridge and Loyola University Maryland, among others.
“I am gratified that our peers have recognized the changes in our programs that have led us to become a top destination for outstanding engineering undergraduate education,” said Martin Abraham, dean of YSU’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. “Over the past several years, we have increased our ability to offer programs that students want, including our new co-op and internship activity. This is reflected as the graduates are those who employers wish to hire.”
The rankings are based solely on the peer judgments of deans and senior faculty, who rated each program on a scale of 1 to 5. YSU is ranked among programs that offer bachelor’s or master’s degrees in engineering.
YSU offers bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering, civil and construction engineering technology, civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, industrial and systems engineering, mechanical engineering, and mechanical engineering technology, as well as graduate degrees in civil and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, industrial and systems engineering, materials science and engineering and mechanical engineering. The university has also recently introduced an online graduate degree in engineering management.
