Young Adult Novel by Poland Native Gains Popularity
POLAND, Ohio -- Cristin Bishara’s debut novel for young adults, Relativity, deals with themes of fantasy, such as secret portals to parallel universes and the ability to change the past.
Walker Books for Young Readers published Relativity in September, Walker is an imprint of Bloomsbury.
Relativity is the story of Ruby Wright, a science-minded girl of 15 who discovers a portal to alternate universes and becomes obsessed with finding the perfect world after a series of emotional upheavals in her life.
Bishara’s book has enjoyed a measure of success, garnering positive reviews, a two-week blog tour that has exposed it to thousands of potential readers, and she has conducted book signings in her adopted state, Florida, and at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Boardman.
Bishara, a 1990 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, went on to major in English at Kenyon College and earn a master of fine arts in poetry at St. Mary’s College of California in Moraga, Calif.
She has worked as a freelance copywriter and taught writing classes at the university level.
Relativity is being published in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. It is also available as an eBook and an audiobook, and Bishara said Walker is pursuing additional foreign rights and that it could lead to being adapted into a series on television.
While she had written poetry, screenplays, magazine articles, short stories and picture books, the experience of writing a book and the acceptance it has gained in the short time since its publication have convinced Bishara that the young adult genre is her métier, she says.
