Westminster, Grove City Are 'Great Affordable Colleges'
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College was named one of the "50 Great Affordable Colleges in the Northeast" by Great Value Colleges, a website that helps students find the best possible education for their money. Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., is on the list as well.
Grove City ranks No. 6 on the list of private schools, while Westminster ranks 22nd. According to the rankings, the school has a freshmen retention rate of 91% and 96% of alumni are working or in graduate school. Grove City College focuses on providing an affordable education from a Judeo-Christian point of view and offers more than 40 arts, sciences, and pre-professional academic programs.
Westminster has been labeled one of the best schools for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – or STEM -- fields and a top institution for service learning, the rankings state. The school’s freshmen retention rate is 87% and the year-year graduation rate is 77%, both well above average. Westminster is particularly enticing to pre-med students, who are accepted into medical schools at nearly double the national average.
Categories considered in assigning the rankings are six-year graduation rate, freshmen retention rate, student-to-faculty ratio, percentage of classes taught by teaching assistants, average entrance ACT score, number of campus organizations, number of academic programs; and Forbes ranking. In addition, all schools on the list have a net price (total cost of attendance minus the average financial aid package) under $22,000.
