Sustainable Energy Forum Begins Today at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The annual Sustainable Energy Forum gets under way this morning at Youngstown State University.
The two-day event opens at 8:30 in YSU’s Kilcawley Center with presentations by U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, and state Rep. Sean O’Brien. They will be followed by Ed Morris, director of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Initiative, who will provide an overview of the federal program to date.
Morris will be followed by Kelly Visconti, technology manager for the U.S. Department of Energy’s advanced manufacturing office, who will discuss “Additive Manufacturing and Energy,” and Craig A. Blue, Ph.D., director of the manufacturing demonstration facility at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, who will present “Innovations in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies.”
The featured luncheon speaker is Cynthia Powell, Ph.D., director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory’s office of research and development, who will talk about “Optimizing the Nation’s Fossil Energy Portfolio for Sustainable Energy Independence.”
The afternoon will feature an appearance by a Minddrive electric vehicle, one of the stops on its trip from Kansas City to Washington, D.C. Minddrive is a nonprofit educational program that aims to teach students principles of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on learning techniques. The trip will be powered by social fuel through the social activity of Minddrive supporters and the public.
The electric Karmann Ghia will be parked downtown at 1:30 p.m., according to an announcement from the Oh Wow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology. The vehicle is expected to be at YSU at 3 p.m.
