Quest Marks 25 Years of Student Research at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University’s annual Quest Forum for Student Scholarship celebrates its 25th anniversary Tuesday when nearly 400 students will present research on topics such as coral reefs off Costa Rica, same-sex marriage, sleep disorders and point spreads in National Football League games.
The forum, free and open to the public, runs from 8:30 a.m. 5 p.m. in Kilcawley Student Center. In all, 392 students will present 192 research projects. “We commend the outstanding scholarly achievements of YSU students by providing this venue to present their research and creations,” said Jeff Coldren, YSU director of undergraduate research and a professor of psychology.
Awards will be given in several categories, including best undergraduate project and best graduate project.
In addition, to mark the 25th anniversary of Quest, the Best of Quest will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of Williamson Hall. Top Quest presenters in each college will compete for the overall undergraduate and graduate awards. Lorilynn Shandor, who recently hosted the TEDx talks in Youngstown, will be mistress of ceremonies. Judges are Paul McFadden, president of the YSU Foundation; Carole Weimer, who sits on YSU Board of Trustees; Chet Cooper, professor of biology and president of the YSU Academic Senate; Jim Cossler, chief executive officer of the Youngstown Business Incubator; and Christine Cobb, president of the YSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.
