MCCTC Hosts 'Cutting Edge Manufacturing' Conference
CANFIELD, Ohio -- Cutting Edge Manufacturing, a two-day conference this Thursday and Friday at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, aims to educate participants and change their perspectives on careers in the growing field of manufacturing. Parents, students and interested individuals are invited to attend an evening event featuring Jeremy Bout of Edge Factor at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The keynote session follows at 7 p.m. Bout travels the country speaking to communities about rewarding careers in manufacturing and disspelling many of the myths associated with the industry. With media-rich presentations and high-impact videos, Edge Factor makes heroes of the manufacturers heroes and rock starts of the engineers.
Those who attend can visit with nearby manufacturers at the manufacturing fair hosted by the conference to learn more about careers and educational opportunities.
On Friday, more than 500 freshmen from throughout Mahoning County will visit MCCTC for Manufacturing Day. The students will take part in a presentation from Bout during which they will learn how the world of manufacturing continues to advance and how they can create their own pathways to successful careers in this growing industry.
Students also will take part in a manufacturing project that demonstrates how manufacturing industries work together to produce goods and products seen daily. Manufacturers from local industry, representing careers in hydraulics/pneumatics, machining, welding and engineering, will work with the students by exposing them to manufacturing careers in the Valley.
The conference is presented by the MCCTC and Oh-Penn Pathways to Competitiveness Project, a project funded by a U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Innovation Fund grant administered by West Central Job Partnership.
Thursday events are free and open to the community. For more information, call Jacqueline Kuffel, career development supervisor, at 330 729 4120.
