Kent State Taps Sines as Dean of Its STEM College
KENT, Ohio -- The dean and chief administrative officer of the Trumbull campus of Kent State University, Robert Sines, has been named interim dean of the university’s college of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Sines will serve in that post through June 30, 2015, said Todd A. Diacon, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.
Wanda Thomas assumes Sines post as dean of the Trumbull campus while maintaining her role as associate provost and dean of the regional college. Thomas was appointed interim executive dean for regional campuses in 2009. Daniel Palmer, assistant dean at Kent Trumbull, will help Thomas on the day-to-day management of the campus.
A national search for dean of the Trumbull campus will begin this fall, Diacon said.
In a prepared statement, the university provost said of Sines, “Robert is an excellent choice for this key leadership position. He has faithfully served Kent State with a track record of success going back more than a quarter of a century, and his experience and guidance will be invaluable to the college and to the university as a whole.”
Sines was named provost and chief administrative officer of the Trumbull campus in November 2010 after holding the post on an interim basis from July 2003 until June 2005. In between, he was an associate dean of the campus where he has also served as assistant dean, associate professor and assistant professor. Before joining academia, Sines served 20 years in the Army.
