Grove City Expands Partnership with Osteopathic College
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Students at Grove City College interested in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry can gain provisional early acceptance to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, the schools report. Officials at both have agreed to expand their strategic partnership.
The schools renewed their agreement for Lake Erie’s College of Medicine and signed new agreements for its School of Pharmacy and School of Dental Medicine.
Based on the agreements, qualified students can gain provisional early acceptance to Lake Erie as well as the opportunity, in some cases, to begin their studies at there before they complete their baccalaureates. Another benefit of the provisional early acceptance is qualified students spared the time and considerable expense of applying to numerous medical, pharmacy and dental schools, said Richard G. Jewell, president of Grove City College.
More than 60 Grove City students have graduated from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and another 23 are enrolled there. In addition, three students at Grove City College are participating in the Early Acceptance Program for Lake Erie’s College of Medicine and will begin their studies there in 2015, 2016, and 2017, respectively.
Other features of the agreement:
- College of Medicine, “3+4” and “4+4” -- Students attend Grove City College for either three or four years, then complete four years of study at Lake Erie to earn a doctorate in osteopathic medicine.
- School of Pharmacy, “3+3 (4)” and “4+3 (4)” -- Students attend Grove City either three or four years, then complete three years at Lake Erie’s’s School of Pharmacy in Erie, or four years at its School of Pharmacy in Bradenton, Fla. Lake Erie’s Erie campus is one of the few in the national to offer an accelerated, three-year doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The School of Pharmacy at the Bradenton campus offers a more traditional, four-year program.
- School of Dental Medicine, “4+4” -- Students attend Grove City College four years and four more at Lake Erie. The Early Acceptance Program for the DMD degree is offered only at Lake Erie’s campus in Bradenton.
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is the nation’s largest medical school, with more than 2,200 students at campuses in Erie, Bradenton, Fla., and at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa.
