Youngstown Strong Cities Bootcamp Convenes Next Week
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The German Marshall Fund of the United States and Mayor John McNally, in support of the White House Strong Cities, Strong Communities Initiative, will host a two-day workshop March 10-11 at the Covelli Centre.
The event is called the Youngstown Strong Cities, Strong Communities Bootcamp. It will bring together national experts and local stakeholders to share knowledge and exchange ideas in support of the mayor’s key economic development initiatives and the activities of Youngstown’s Strong Cities, Strong Communities Fellowship Team.
Opening the event will be a panel discussion moderated by McNally.
The panelists for this discussion will "offer their perspectives for creating and branding a downtown business research district. They include James Cossler, CEO of the Youngstown Business Incubator, Robert Shroder, CEO of Humility of Mary Health Partners, Dr. Martin Abraham, Dean of Youngstown State University's STEM College, and Dr. Laura Meeks, president of Eastern Gateway Community College.

Articulating a Vision for Partnerships

Youngstown is a city steeped in history and full of dedicated community members working tirelessly to make the city a better place to live. The first part of this session will offer a platform for the mayor to engage with downtown institution leaders on a vision for downtown Youngstown. This panel of leaders will speak to each of their institution’s potential roles as partners in the creation of a downtown business research district. In the second part of the session, cities of comparable size and experience will share best practices around crafting visions for downtown revitalization in older industrial cities and turning these visions into action. They will offer their perspectives for creating and branding a downtown image.

Participants can select one or more of the four sessions that will take place during the two-day event. Sessions are free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is open through today. More information about the event is available here.
