Warren SOUP to Hold Micro-Funding Dinner Nov. 23
WARREN, Ohio -- Warren SOUP will hold its next dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Movement, East Market Street, to raise money that provides micro-funding for creative projects intended to benefit the city, Holly Maggiano, director of Earth Angel Farm, announced Monday.
Warren SOUP is an informal alliance of residents and organizations from Warren who would provide small grants for worthwhile creative projects. Warren SOUP is modeled after Detroit SOUP (SOUP is not an acronym).
Those who attend the public dinner -- the cost is $5 -- will be served soup, salad, bread and a ballot. Diners will hear presentations from no more than four groups seeking funding for their projects. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions before they vote for the project they think will benefit the city most.
The winner will be announced at the end of the evening -- the program is slated to run until 7 p.m. -- and will receive the money raised Saturday night. The winner will report the progress it’s making at future SOUP dinners.
The SOUP committee, which held its inaugural dinner last month, plans to hold at least four a year.
“We know there is a great depth of talent and creativity in Warren,” Maggiano said, “and many area residents who advocate positive change in our community. Warren SOUP can provide the much-needed funding to support their community-changing projects."
Free parking is available in the parking lot across from The Movement. For more information, call Sheila Calko at 330 881 7698.
