Unemployment Rates Fall Across Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The jobless rate in the Youngstown municipal statistical area, or MSA, which includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio, and Mercer County in Pennsylvania, stood at 7.9% in August, down from 8.4% a month earlier and lower than the 8.1% posted in August 2012, according to data released Tuesday morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
The city of Youngstown's unemployment rate fell to 10.1% in August compared to 11% the previous month, but remains higher than the 9.5% rate posted in August 2012, according to ODJFS.
Unemployment in Mahoning County also fell in August compared to July, OJFS reported. The unemployment rate countywide stood at 7.7% last month versus 8.6% the previous month. In August 2012, Mahoning County's jobless rate stood at 7.4%.
Trumbull County's jobless rate also declined in August compared with the previous month to 7.6% from 8.5%, and was also lower than year-ago numbers, which stood at 8.3%, ODJFS reported.
In the city of Warren, unemployment stood at 8.5% in August, down from 10% in July, and down from 9.7% in August 2012, ODJFS reported.
In Columbiana County, the jobless rate fell to 7.7% from 8.2%, but was slightly higher than the 7.6% rate posted in August 2012.
