Unemployment Rates Drop Across the Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN,Ohio -- The unemployment rate in the city of Youngstown dropped half a percentage point, from 9.4% in August to 8.9% in September, and was down from 11.7% a year earlier. Warren's unemployment rate improved to 9.3% in September from 9.6% in August, and was down from 10.3% in September 2011, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported today.
Mahoning and Trumbull counties had a combined 7.4% unemployment rate in September, down from 7.7% in August and from 8.8% in September 2011. For the metropolitan statistical area that includes both counties as well as Mercer County, Pa., the September unemployment rate was 7.6%, down from 7.9% in August and down from 8.7% in September 2011.
Individually, Mahoning County's 6.9%t unemployment rate was improved from 7.3% in August and from 8.8% in September 2011. Trumbull County, which also posted an 8.8% jobless rate in September 2011, reported a 7.9%t rate last month, down from 8.2% in August. In Columbiana County, the September unemployment rate was 7.3%, down from 7.6% in August and down nearly two full points from September 2011's 9.4%.
