Travel Bank Exceeds Goal, Extends Deadline
VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport exceeded the $5 million goal set for its Travel Bank – Air Service Initiative, gathering $5.3 million in nonbinding pledges, and has extended the deadline to Jan. 15.
A total of 195 businesses, organizations and individuals have made the nonbinding pledges to use the airport if regularly scheduled daily service were restored, according to Dan Dickten, aviation director. The pledges attempt to quantify what each entity will spend annually on new service should it be initiated at the airport.
“The great response received by local businesses and other frequent travelers shows the airlines that the local community is very supportive of using the local airport for daily scheduled airline service,” Dickten said.
“This has been a team effort through and through," added Eric Planey, vice president of international business attraction for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. "The business community has once again shown their support for the Valley by indicating they would use daily service at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport."
The travel bank is “is proof positive that the community wants better air access to the world” via the regional airport, said Tom Reich of AvPorts, the airport’s air service development consultant.
