ThyssenKrupp to Add Youngstown Hub
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- ThyssenKrupp Materials NA Inc.’s copper and brass sales division will open new distribution hubs in Youngstown and Monroe, Ohio, the company announced Wednesday.
The opening of the new Ohio hubs, which will serve as the logistics centers for delivery service to local customers, coincides with the company’s nationwide system to provide better, cost-effective service to customers, the company said.
No additional details were provided.
ThyssenKrupp, headquartered in Germany, manufactures industrial components including flat-rolled and cast steel automobile parts, elevators and escalators, machine tools, bearings, nonferrous metals and plastics. It also develops and manages real estate. Last year, it ranked 122nd among the Fortune Global 500 companies and generated sales of $64 billion in fiscal year 2011/2012, it reported.
ThyssenKrupp ‘s copper and brass sales division will also consolidate facilities in Cleveland, Dayton,and Pittsburgh, primarily into its Northwood, Ohio plant. Located near Toledo, that facility is one of the company’s processing and distribution centers with a wide array of high-volume production processing equipment. Sales operations will remain in Dayton and Cleveland but move to more modern facilities in the future, the company said. The company plans to move forward on its plans immediately, with a goal of completion by the end of the fiscal year.

Today’s moves position us for long-term success,” says Frank Kevane, president and chief executive officer for the division. “We’re consolidating operations activities into premier facilities where we’ve invested in state-of-the art equipment, giving us the framework for better efficiencies for all our customers in Ohio and Pennsylvania.” He noted that the company will offer some operations employees from its Pittsburgh, Dayton and Cleveland locations the opportunity to transfer to other facilities within the company.
“We began the process of this strategic review with the clear goal of improving our efficiencies so we can provide fast and cost-effective service to customers throughout the United States and Canada. With this change, we will be able to offer customers the experience of local sales and delivery with a leaner and more agile operations system,” said Vern Ginunas, executive vice president, chief operating officer for the division. “Copper and brass sales remains committed to our customers in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Dayton and their surrounding areas. The continued presence of their sales teams and local distribution hubs ensures that the reorganization will be a positive change.”
