State Releases Clean Ohio Funds for Niles Site
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The State Controlling Board has approved the release of $292,628 from the Clean Ohio Assistance Fund for a Phase II environmental assessment on the site of the former Republic Steel in Niles.
The city of Niles and the property owner, BR Property Group, are in the process of redeveloping the property to assist with the expansion of BRT Extrusions, Inc. The project is expected to create 20 jobs
The assessment of the property will include installation of 112 soil borings, 49 shallow groundwater monitoring wells and three deep groundwater monitoring wells as well as an asbestos survey, data evaluation and reporting on the 11-acre parcel, according to controlling board documents. The assessment will determine the environmental suitability of the property and possible need for remediation.
