Ohio Star Forge to Break Ground on $20M Expansion
CHAMPION, Ohio -- Ohio Star Forge Inc. will officially break ground Tuesday morning on its $20 million expansion, the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber announced this morning.
Ohio Star Forge officials confirmed last month they are moving ahead with expansion of the plant here, which will involve adding production capacity, equipment and jobs. Ohio Star Forge manufactures bearing components for the automotive, oil and gas, industrial and off-highway markets. The expansion is being driven by the resurgence of the automotive industry, which represents about 70% of its business, executives say.
"This is the right spot," said Bill Orbach, Ohio Star Forge president and CEO, who announced the project at a Champion Township trustees' meeting.
The project will involve constructing a 33,000-square-foot addition at the south end of Ohio Star Forge's plant at 4000 Mahoning Ave. N.W. to house a new, larger Hatebur hot former, which will enable the company to double its steel capacity to 36,000 tons annually. The expansion will bring employment at the plant from 96 to 130.
Incentives the company has received include job creating tax credits totaling more than $107,000, 60% tax abatements on real property, and $30,000 in state workforce training grants.
