Ohio Expands Quicker Business Filings at Website
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The office of Ohio’s Secretary of State is expanding the services available at Ohio Business Central, its online business filing system.
Businesses can now create a limited partnership and file for reinstatement -- steps that previously had to be done on paper forms and through the mail.
“These enhancements are intended to roll out the red carpet to businesses and encourage job creation by taking advantage of more recent technology,” said Secretary of State Jon Husted in a prepared statement. “If Ohio wants to attract new companies, we have to continue to improve and modernize the way business is done.”
The office launched Ohio Business Central last October with an eye to speed up the business-filing process. Online filing reduces processing times for customers and streamlines administrative operations, thus making government more efficient, Husted noted.
The new filing services build upon Ohio Business Central’s offerings, including forming a limited liability company in Ohio, renewing a trade or fictitious name and filing biennial reports for professional associations or limited liability partnerships as well as statements of continuing existence for nonprofit corporations. By adding to the list of the most frequently used forms available online, approximately half of all filings received by the secretary’s office in 2012 can now be done at Ohio Business Central, Husted said. Since the office launched online filing last fall, more than 8,700 filings have been submitted through the online system, he reported.
Businesses can file electronically via the Ohio Business Central e website below after creating a profile to access the secure site. Once logged in, users can select from the options, provide payment for filing fees and manage their account. The online system allows businesses to complete the submission process, from start to finish, in less than one day in some cases, Husted said.
The secretary of state’s staff will continue to make paper forms available for those who prefer to file business forms this way.
