Ohio Adds More Online Business Services
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Beginning today, companies in Ohio will be able to register trade and fictitious names and update statutory agents online. The expanded services build upon the existing offerings of Ohio Business Central, which was established in October 2013.
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced the expanded online services during a speech Thursday to the National Association of Women Business Owners of Columbus.
“When I arrived in office four years ago, it was a paper process that took four days; now 80% of what we do can be done online and turned around in 24 hours or less,” Husted said. “This is a big reason why we are on course to have another record year in new business starts in Ohio.”
Ohio Business Central’s offerings include forming a limited liability company in Ohio, renewing a trade or fictitious names and filing biennial reports for professional associations or limited liability partnerships, as well as statements of continued existence for nonprofit corporations. New services will also include limited liability company dissolutions.
Since Ohio Business Central was launched, nearly 23,000 filings have been submitted and one in three new companies is now started online in the state, Husted said.
Overall, the state saw a record-setting number of new businesses file in 2012 and 2013, with 88,068 and 89,735 new companies filing to do business in Ohio respectively, Husted’s office reported. With the current pace of new business filings ahead the same time period last year, Ohio is on track to have another record-setting year in 2014, the office projects.
